Monthly community phlebotomy pilot update

22 September 2021

Welcome to the September monthly community phlebotomy pilot update.  Previous updates can be found on our website along with a full list of phlebotomy services across BHR.

Due to a national shortage of blood testing bottles, between 26 August and September 17, all non-urgent blood tests were suspended in accordance with instruction from NHS England and NHS Improvement.

We are pleased to report that in line with the best practice guidance, testing activity in primary and community care can now resume for non-critical phlebotomy referrals.

As a result of this suspension, in order to cope with the anticipated surge in demand from October and to ensure waiting times are kept as short as possible, we are planning to increase the opening times at some clinics as well as adding additional clinics during the week and at weekends.
