About clinical commissioning

NEL CCG is responsible, along with other health and social care professionals and patients, for deciding how the local NHS budget is spent. This is known as commissioning.

Commissioning is a process which involves planning, designing and funding health services. We use the use the clinical expertise of locally-based doctors and nurses, supported by experienced managers, to inform the decisions we make about health and care services. This gives us real, detailed insight into the health and care issues across north east London, from the people who live and work and care for local people.

The services that we’re responsible for include most primary care (for example, the services you receive at your GP practice), mental health, hospital care, urgent and emergency care, community health services such as blood testing and physiotherapy and cancer care.
